Gardenia Philippines donates 150 recycled school chairs to Cabantian Elementary School in Davao

Gardenia Philippines recently donated 150 school chairs to Cabantian Elementary School in Davao as part of the company’s continuous efforts towards reducing the environmental impact of plastic wastes and of helping improve the learning environment of students in the country.

This marks Gardenia’s second batch of chair donation, following the turnover ceremony in Gun-Ob High School in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu last September 2023 where Gardenia also donated 150 chairs.

Aligned with the United Nations SDG Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and Goal 4: Quality Education, the school chair donation is part of Gardenia’s Going Green and Enriching Lives efforts under Gardenia’s Embracing Sustainability program.

Since the program was launched in 2023, Gardenia has recycled approximately 9,000 kilos of Gardenia packaging and other kinds of plastics by donating a total of 300 classroom chairs made from 100% single-use plastics.

Accepting the chairs on behalf of the school were Principal In-Charge of Buhangin B District Josephine C. Bargayo, Cabantian Elementary School Principal Judy May C. Omapoy and Adopt-A-School Focal Person Jonas Piore. The turnover ceremony in Davao was also graced by Envirotech Waste Recycling, Inc. Founder Winchester Lemen, and the Supreme Elementary Learner Government. They were also joined by students and members of the faculty.

Aside from the school chairs, the students and teachers, received several packs of bread and participated in a lecture about the 7Rs of sustainability: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle, to further inspire them in embracing sustainable green practices towards a healthier planet.
