Gardenia assures safety of its breads
Gardenia Bakeries Philippines Inc. (GBPI), the country's largest bread manufacturer, has assured consumers that its products are free from the toxic melamine substance saying they do not import milk from China.
Gardenia president Simplicio Umali Jr. issued this statement to allay fears after milk products from China are found to contain the toxic substance.
"We never import milk or any dairy products from China," said GBPI Executive Baker Ninoh Jallores.
Gardenia uses milk only from the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Other dairy products like margarine and whey powder are also obtained from Australia and the USA.
Jallores emphasized that from the day of its inception, Gardenia only uses premium ingredients from all over the world, that go through rigid evaluation and testing to ensure that only high-quality and safe bread products reach the Filipino consumers.
He noted that Gardenia carefully selected reliable suppliers and manufacturers of raw materials to produce world-class quality breads.
Likewise, Gardenia's state-of-the-art bread manufacturing facilities and processes are ISO quality-certified and HACCP food safety-certified by an independent international certifying body. This shows Gardenia's commitment to delight the consumer with best quality and safe bread products.
Jallores noted that Gardenia's quality policy states, "We will aim for continuous improvement of our processes, products and services, ensuring compliance with our customers' and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements." (BCM)
