As a way of sharing the success of the company and expressing its gratitude, we conduct and facilitate various philanthropic activities and encourage corporate social responsibility programs which include calamity donations, entrepreneurship, and sponsorships.

Responding to calamities

This year marks one of the most challenging period for the Filipinos as two of the most tragic events is recorded in the Philippine history. And as a caring corporate citizen, Gardenia holds the responsibility to help the calamity-affected communities.

The wrath of Typhoon Haiyan

Super Typhoon Haiyan, the world’s strongest tropical cyclone ever recorded, massively devastated the central parts of the Philippines this 2013. Typhoon Haiyan left millions of families homeless, more than 5,700 corpses as of this writing, and damages estimated to reach Php 35B.

Gardenia immediately responded to the typhoon-hit areas and donated thousands of breads in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), ABS-CBN Sagip-Kapamilya Foundation, GMA Kapuso Foundation, and various charitable groups and individuals. Gardenia also initiated a calamity donation drive for the victims and for some Gardenia employees who were affected by the calamity. Employees also received monetary assistance, clothes and goods, especially to those whose houses were totally wiped out.

Quick Reponse- Bohol earthquake

7.2-magnitude earthquake

Another tragedy that challenged Filipinos is the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that seriously damaged the Bohol area that even the Philippines’ oldest church was destroyed. Gardenia extended help to the evacuees and worked with relief organizations to immediately send aid by giving out thousands of bread loaves to the quake victims.

Other Disasters

Gardenia also donated loaves to victims in flooded areas caused by heavy monsoon rains, and to families affected by oil spills in Cebu. We worked with local government units and socio-civic groups to provide food aid to the victims.

Quick Response for Fire Victims

During the summer season, fire incidents are rife, leaving thousands of families homeless and hungry. Gardenia launched the “Response Agad (Quick Response) for Fire Victims” project, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Alabang, providing assistance to fire victims in relocation centers, giving them ready-to-eat goods like bread which do not require cooking unlike rice or noodles. We responded to fire victims within 24 hours as these people were in immediate need of food in evacuation centers.

Sponsorships and charity support to less fortunate children.

Support to Tuloy sa Don Bosco Foundation

Gardenia continues to support the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Foundation by giving employment opportunities to underprivileged and abandoned street children, some of whom were former drug addicts, thieves and snatchers, and victims of child abuse. Gardenia trains staff from Tuloy to assist in the in-house bread store of the Laguna plant. The company also provides on-the-job training in engineering and production for qualified graduates of Tuloy.

Gardenia is consistent in donating breads to various foundations and depressed community groups. In its Daily Bread program this year, Gardenia donated approximately 10,000 loaves every week to 40 regular beneficiaries.

I Shared Bread

On its third straight year, the company encourages the value of sharing with the ‘I Shared Bread’ campaign incorporated every Happy Bread Day fair celebrated every October. Every loaf purchased during the event is equivalent to three loaves donated to two charities and to Bohol quake victims.
