Question of the month

Hi Gardenia Nutrition and Wellness Team! I am a coffee drinker and my average cup of coffee per day is around 5cups. Is my rate of coffee consumption still ideal?

In actuality, the ideal number of cups of coffee to consume per day is around 1-2 cups only. Excess caffeine consumption may affect a person's mood, sleep, increase heart beat and if in the long run may even affect a person's reproductive capability.

FEATURED ARTICLE OF THE MONTH

                                                                    Healthy Child in School 101

     Eat Breakfast    Healthy Child

Next week marks the opening of classes for the different schools all over the metro. To make sure that your child achieves that sound mind and body while in school, here are three (3) tips that parents should take note of.

1. Make sure your child eats breakfast. Breakfast should be the largest meal of the day. Studies have shown that children who regularly eat healthy breakfast are more energetic and productive in school than students who don’t normally eat breakfast.

2. Prepare delicious yet nutrient packed baon for your children. In order to ensure that you keep your child energized all through out the day, it is better that parents prepare their children’s snack since home made treats tend to be healthier than processed ones that children can usually buy in the school canteen. In deciding on what foods to buy for snacks, allow the children to choose the foods that they want to eat provided that parents encourage and guide them to choose the healthy ones. Moreover, explain to your kids why having healthy* baon *choices benefit them. Studies have shown that children are more likely to eat snacks that they have picked for themselves. Gardenia breads are the perfect choice for snacks with its good taste and high nutrient content. With Gardenia, parents are assured that they are preparing snacks that are not only full of nutrients but also something that their children will love.

3. Encourage them to engage in other physical activity apart from studies. Enroll your children in an afterschool activity like Taekwondo, ballet or piano lessons. This is to maintain the child’s active body and even help them develop their own talents and skills while enjoying themselves and making new friends.
